Whodaman and SonOfDaMan combined on the largest reported waterfowl kill of the season in the Panhandle of Texas (81 and should have had 120)...we spotted a roosting area and managed to get into the migration flight the next morning...it rained geese for hours. This saved the farmers crops and provided greater nesting areas in the Artic.

When SonOfDaMan got to the airport they tried to fine us for overloading the plane with goosebreast...it didnt work...WhoDaMan will smuggle the rest out on afollowing flight....more pictures later as well as a moive onwww.gutpile.net

Well I am working so far up in the panhandle of Texas I stay in OK...wondering what they did in their spare time I figured it out...

1. Pick up dead fish at da lake (I got the biggest one)

2. Dig for lizzards (got a big one there also)

3. Squirt water on your tree over night. (this guy won)

4. Watch the wind turbines go round and round (not too exciting)

Other than that not much to do...will stay in Texas this weekend.

Radioactive fish near nuclear plant said ordinary but radioactive worms are out of ordinary

Bay City, TX. - When a fish taken from the Matagorda River recently tested positive for radioactive strontium-90, suspicion focused on the nearby South Texas nuclear plant as the likely source.

Operators of the troubled 38-year-old nuclear plant, where work is under way to clean up leaking radioactive tritium, revealed this month that it also found soil contaminated with strontium-90.

Three days later, officials said a fish caught four miles upstream from the reactor in February had tested positive for strontium-90 in its bones. State officials say they don't believe the contamination came from South Texas Nuke.

I did some digging near the plant and found these radioactive earth worms. I discovered a new heavy metal that I named Wormium-243. It gave the night crawlers their green glow. On a plus side they caught more fish at night than the standard night crawler.

WhoDaMan got word that the bite was on for catfish and goo so of course I had to investigate being I hate missing out on a bite. I had some crawfish from last year frozen in water and figured that would work but it didn’t. I only had 4 goo and I brought them home and after filleting them I baited a few traps.

It was kind Biblical turning 4 fish into a 48 quart ice chest of fresh crawfish.

So I figured the Good Lord wanted me to go back and thin out some of the goo and who am I to argue with him so I went back on my way to the job site.

If it looks like I am straining to pick up these 17 fish it’s because I am…so I will continue to work out by increasing the amount of fish I catch. One thing I learned was to know the capacity of your ice chest and try not to exceed it.

That way you know when to stop fishing when the ice chest is full.

And always pack light. I found out 1 rod was all I really needed. WhoDaMan was fishing by Cecilie and her family that had a great Mothers Day Catch.

Well we built the Mother Of All Traps II (MOAT-II) Friday. It is in a place that is still holding water after a couple of weeks so it should catch them this winter and fall and maybe before. I stopped at a bait stand and there was a picture of a giant prawn so might have to look into trapping some of those too. It was caught on a rod and reel.

Here on the Redneck Riviera we experienced hurricane force winds with the passage of a front. Santa wanted to make another duck hunt after delivering all the Christmas presents so I said sure (who am I to tell Santa no). When we got there the camouflage duck sledge was all torn to heck and back. Needless to say the elves will have some work to do getting it back in shape. I told him to consider landscape timbers and plywood next time and plan on just leaving it down here. He said it would take a few more reindeer to get it down here but would be worth it.

I kind of propped things back and threw out some decoys cuz there was bunches of ducks flying around. Yep if you look close that isn’t smoke but a cloud of ducks on the horizon.

Well a little expert calling and Santa bagged the 13 species of duck since I have been down here. A really nice bufflehead that he is planning on having mounted cuz there aren’t any of them up on the North Pole.

He said he was ready to head on back and I said “What’s the hurry? Dove season is open lets go try for some.”

SonOfDaMan came along and made a most excellent shot almost decapitating a dove with his shotgun.

Santa’s shooting was not quite as good as with the duck hunting but he still got 4 in an hour and it was time to head back to the North Pole and start working on next years gifts.

WhoDaMan was on his way to Houston right after the blizzard hit the Redneck Riviera when who does he run into at the Whataburger but none other than Santa Clause.

I asked him what-da-heck he was doing in South Texas and he explained he had been invited to help decorate the Whataburgers down here.

I must admit he had to have been to Whataburgers before to come up with some of the ideas he had.

He said he was through with the decorations and I asked him if he wanted to go duck hunting…he said sure so I took him.

He was an OK shot but the hunting hat he insisted on wearing made decoying the ducks a little challenging.

There was lots of action both on and off the water here on the Redneck Riviera. I did 2 cooking demonstrations for the deaf and hearing impaired. The first one was for the senior group.

I called to the Kiolbassa Sausage folks in San Antonio and told them what I was doing and they sent them all $5 coupons for their sausage.

Then Friday we did the youth group…

When they surveyed the kids they said they would rather have a cooking demo than go to the aquarium. That really made me feel special and I was glad I could get them coupons also.

I shared recipes and they ate up all the demonstrated recipes.

And the son caught one only its mother could love.

The all filleted up good and I will probably work in another demo for the senior group featuring fish.

For those that voted for the dessert thanks and you can keep voting till the 19th once a day Red White and Blue Contest. It is the Red White & Blue Rice Cream Sundae and it sure was a hit with the kids down here. Sorry yall I didn’t know there was some kind of sign up to vote and I won’t ever get in one of that contest again. I will give the prize money to the Deaf and Hearing Impaired Center here in Corpus to help them out a little. I have a post on the site back about page 12 that says so too.

Well it has been awhile since the last report and I don’t want folks to think that we have stopped catching fish because of the heat down here.

The mangrove snapper have really been thick and there are not enough people helping WhoDaMan and SonOfDaMan with catches of the fish.

I now have evidence that the mangrove are eating up the stone crabs.

No wonder these fish taste so good all they eat is stone crabs and shrimp.

WhoDaMan was asked by the city of Corpus Christi to do some cooking demonstrations.

There wasn’t an empty seat in the room…everyone must have enjoyed the food cuz there weren’t any samples left.

WhoDaMan, WifeOfDaMan and DaughterOfDaMan took a little side trip to Pennsylvania to visit some of the relatives that weren’t born south of the Mason Dixon Line.

Real pretty country up there and it was like some one left the AC on as there was frost one morning the 1st week of June…we didn’t even have a frost in the middle of winter here on the Redneck Riviera.

I had to drinks some of their beer just because of the name.

Their driving leaves a little to be desired…look at this horse drawn wagon tailgating this camper…I don’t think any of them were warring seatbelts either…

Well most of the butterflies are heading north on their spring migration.

Yep all of those little black dots and the big yellow smears are butterflies.

Son of Da Man is taking Father In Law of Da Man AKA Grand Paw of Son of Da Man crawfishing with him...he said it beats playing dominoes...they will start catfishing next week...he will add rod holders to his walker so he can fish 3-4 rods (hey its another limit)

Just because there hasn’t been a report in awhile doesn’t mean we are not still out there taking care of any wildlife imbalances. WhoDaMan with his faithful companion SonOfDaMan were called on once again by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department or TPWD for short to take care of a mangrove snapper population that had gotten completely out of hand and was ravaging the shrimp population of Corpus Christi Bay or CCB for short.

I called the local newspaper to report that we were the only volunteers that showed up to help out the shrimp on CCB

The local outdoors writer said he would help so we went back out and did it to them again.

Sometimes you discover your ice chest is not quite big enough.

I noticed a Navy Veteran and asked him if he had caught anything.

He said no so we gave him some fish and ice…he looked me in the eye and said “God Bless You Mister”. I told him he had and I was sharing the blessing…and “God Bless You for protecting our country”…we shook hands and I wished he had a bigger ice chest.

SonOfDaMan was not quite satisfied with catching gar with rod and real so he has started hand lining them.

We ended up catching 4 of them this way.

Besides giving fish to the veteran some also went to a widow in the church which she really appreciated as she hasn’t been fishing in awhile. This helped make more room in the freezer so we can keep going too.

The duck season split is happening now and by the time it opens we should have a fowl report (pardon the pun). Hunting season has started and that leaves most of the water to WhoDaMan and SonOfDaMan. The day started off with a real nice sunrise signaling that the catch would be good. Just like the old saying “Red at Dawn Fish Take Warn” or something like that.

We started our assault in the downtown area where there was a mixed catch waiting for us.

Yep down here on the Redneck Riviera there is a new definition of “Tail Gate Party”

Mangrove snapper, specs, galftop and drum with a few skipjack thrown in.

I told SonOfDaMan that we should take the skipjack and head to the river as the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department or TPWD for short reported that there was low baitfish counts being registered…I suspected gar and I was right.

There were so many that we were catching’m 2 at a time on double drop rigs.

Long rods and heavy line were the combination from keeping them from making it to the rail road track or RRT’s and breaking us off.

SonOfDaMan is shown here hoisting what may be the largest stinger weight wise that the Fish Slicker Stringer Company has ever had load tested.

WhoDaMan didn’t really have anything to prove so I didn’t hold the stringer up for my picture. As SonOfDaMan said “They aren’t the biggest gar we have ever caught so we made up with it by catch a bunch”…That’s my boy. Keep what you catch and pretty soon you too will have a freezer full. Well its been too long since the last Redneck Riviera Report. Back tracking a little DaughterOfDaMan and WhoDaMan went to the International Rice Festival placing with all 8 of our dishes in the 4 categories.

We did not feel the love from the local competitors or judges and cannot wait till next year for the Texas Rice Festival.

And now for the outdoors portion of the report…SonOfDaMan and I were finally able to get all the lights arranged and on line powered with the new hurricane generator I bought. Flounder showed up the 1st night along with huge schools of bait fish.

We also found ourselves along with the bait being attacked by cutlass fish.

After loosing a number of really good hooks we went back armed with wire leaders and did a number on them.

I confirmed with Texas A&M and they built a machine in the 70’s to fillet them.

I used a machine developed in the 80’s and did it myself.

They have some really nasty teeth so be careful.

We have tried them pan fried a couple of different way as well as sashimi style. So come on down while they are still biting (pardon the pun) and get you a bunch. It wont cost as much to get home cuz gas is down to $1.92 a gallon in Portland across the bridge.

WhoDaMan has not lost track of his responsibilities to the wildlife of the Redneck Riviera. SonOfDaMan reported catching alligator gar and redfish in the same spot. I was afraid there might be some breeding activity between the two species and went to check it out. We missed several gar strikes that afternoon and as the tide picked up in the river I hooked this redfish.

SonOfDaMan snapped this picture just as the red was lunging for my throat. Fortunately its teeth became entangled in the massive amount of chest hair I have which kept it from ripping out my jugular veins. I used an old trick from the Greek octopus fisherman and bit it between the eyes to kill it. I thought it best not to publish these pictures as it wasn’t a pretty sight. This proves how aggressive hybrids can be. On an earlier trip SonOfDaMan tangled with this alligator gar.

Sorry about the bad photography on my part as the spots on the tail (very similar to a redfish’s spots) didn’t show up. The dynamic duo will be heading to Choke Canyon on Thursday evening for some night fishing to be followed up with a morning of water thrashing. More reports as they happen or close to it.

Brewster Street Ice house was the scene of the Gary P. Nunn Concert this past Saturday night. Everyone that attended was treated to music by “The Official Ambassador of Texas Music” as declared by our Gov. Rick Perry. We were treated to 2 hours of the best the Redneck Riviera has heard in a while. The crowd went wild when “Castles in the Sand” subtitled “On the Redneck Riviera” was done. Gary was joined by the Redneck Riviera Dancers or RRD for short. The RRD’s kicks were not that high and that was good for Gary cuz the stage isn’t that big and the RRD’s had really long legs except for one of them.

After the show WhoDaMan was able to visit with him. Gary will be added to the email list so he can keep up with local happenings. GPN will be playing at the Texas Rice Festival where we hope to go back and kick some serious rice eating butts..

Another snook was caught by SonOfDaMan awhile back proving beyond a doubt that the Nueces is a nursery for the species. And before I get any feedback NO we did not fillet it and eat it or use it for bait.

I am currently collecting pictures of unique vehicles here on the Riviera and that will be part of an upcoming report if my stay in Victoria is extended.

SonOfDaMan has captures one of the strangest spiders I have ever seen. Of course the Redneck Riviera is probably the only place the spider has probably ever been spotted. WhoDaMan was given off Sunday and headed back to the Riviera to help build the trailer to hall the Redneck Riviera Shuttle Craft or RRSC for short. This aquatic craft will be used to pillage, plunder and generally terrorize wildlife on the upper Nueces Bay as well as the Lugna Madre later this summer, fall and winter for years to come. Hurricane Dolly Update

When WhoDaMan returned from work yesterday he was surprised to see Pike Electric Company trucks in the parking lot. They had driven non-stop from North Carolina to Victoria and were waiting for the storm to break before heading to the valley to help restore power.

There was row after row of truck that filled the parking lots of 2 motels.

They even had 4-wheelers in the back of their 4 wheel drive super duties.

WhoDaMan express appreciation to the crew and bought a round of brews to show some appreciation from folks on the Redneck Riviera.

Another use was found for duct tape during the rain that we had. It makes a good weather proof covering for the broken foot of our safety lady.

Well finally getting some time to update the status of the Redneck Riviera. Took a well deserved brake to pillage and plunder the natural resources of Mexico over the 4th of July.

I was told I look a lot like Hemingway....to bad he didn't have sunglasses.

Currents were still not favorable for marlin but had 2 sailfish and 75 lbs. of Dorado fillets.

SonOfDaMan packing out fish fillets. There was no room in the ice chest for the lizard...next time...heck of a strike on the bait not to catch it.

This is an FYI yall…if you fill up a 48 quart ice chest with fillets you will be over the weight limit for the airlines. Check out the fish tacos Allison made with some of the fish.

SonOfDaMan did his part catching the largest dolphin of his harvesting life. He also picked up the tap on his own boat one day…that helped WhoDaMan go out for an extra day.

I also had the largest stringer of Dorado of my extensive harvesting career.

Nourishment was high on the agenda to keep up the strength for fishing.

Days between fishing left some time for relaxing and taking in the views

Sunsets were a good as you would want and helped settle the belly.

I couldn't believe how big trees had gotten since the last time I was there.

Here in Victoria WhoDaMan recommends Taco Loco’s Magnum Breakfast Burrito…this will keep you going I promise.

It consists of 3 eggs, sausage, bacon, potato, chorizo and cheese…YUM.

Short and Sweet

It has been awhile since the last report and folks are asking if WhoDaMan & SonOfDaMan have hung up their rods early this year…NOT…we are still catching them when we have a chance to go. The fresh water fish have been hammered and the overpopulation of fish has now been put under control. Now that the freshwater echo system is corrected (catfish, South American armored catfish, bigmouth sleeper, shad and gar somewhat) we will start working on the saltwater ones.
